This 48-inch San Damiano Cross reproduces the painted icon crucifix that spoke to St. Francis of Assisi in the ruined chapel of San Damiano, asking him to repair His house. The original 12th-century cross, now kept in the Basilica of St. Clare in Assisi, shows Christ serene and victorious on the cross, surrounded by Mary, St. John, the Centurion and other witnesses of the Passion. It remains the emblem of the Franciscan family and a favorite image for meditating on Christ's redemptive love and the hope of the Resurrection.
At 48 inches it suits a chapel wall, a side altar, a Franciscan retreat house or a school hallway. It can also be placed outdoors in a prayer garden or along a parish walkway where the faithful stop to pray.
Finish options: Monotone and Standard Full-Color. Each finish is offered in an interior or an exterior version. Made from a lightweight, durable resin-fiberglass blend and painted by hand. +++
