Caridad Del Cobre 16"
Around 1612 three young men, two Indigenous brothers and an enslaved boy, found a small statue of Mary floating in the Bay of Nipe, dry despite the water, bearing the words I am the Virgin of Charity. She has been the patroness of Cuba ever since, so declared by Benedict XV in 1916, and her feast is September 8.
Sixteen inches suits a home altar, a bedside, a Cuban family’s kitchen shelf or a parish office, and it is carried in the September procession and given at weddings, Baptisms and departures from the island.
Made of a lightweight, durable resin-fiberglass blend and hand-painted by artisans, each statue finished individually.
