Corpus 108"

This 108-inch corpus is the figure of the crucified Christ at monumental scale, made to be the focal point of a large cross in a church or on parish grounds. The corpus, from the Latin for body, is what makes a cross a crucifix: the Church sets the image of Christ's sacrifice before the faithful so they never forget the price of their redemption. The General Instruction of the Roman Missal asks that a cross bearing the figure of Christ crucified stand on or near the altar at every Mass.

A piece of this scale belongs in a large sanctuary, above a high altar, on a church facade, at an outdoor Calvary or cemetery shrine, or on a parish or school campus where the Cross should be seen from afar.
