22" San Damiano Cross

This 22-inch San Damiano Cross reproduces the painted icon crucifix before which St. Francis of Assisi heard Christ say, Francis, go and repair my house, which as you see is falling into ruin. The original Romanesque cross, painted in the twelfth century, now hangs in the Basilica of St. Clare in Assisi. Around the serene figure of Christ appear Mary, St. John, other witnesses of the Passion and angels, making it a meditation on the whole Paschal Mystery and a beloved emblem of Franciscan spirituality.

At 22 inches it fits above a home altar, in a prayer corner or in a Franciscan office, and it makes a fitting gift for a Confirmation or a Secular Franciscan profession; it can also grace a sheltered garden wall.
