The United States was placed under the patronage of the Immaculate Conception in 1846, and Our Lady of America is that patronage given a face. The devotion, which dates from the 1950s, asks the Virgin for the purity of the nation’s families and young people, and her image has been welcomed in parishes from Indiana to Florida.
Thirty-five inches is a garden, side-chapel and classroom statue, and the size a parish sets in the narthex for the Fourth of July or the November days of prayer for the country. Knights of Columbus councils give it to their parishes.
