Virgo potens, Virgin most powerful, is one of the invocations of the Litany of Loreto, and the Powerful Mother is the Virgin honored under that title in Latin America. The image is Mary as intercessor, the mother whose word at Cana turned water into wine and whose prayer the faithful trust for the hardest cases: an illness beyond medicine, a family broken, a child gone astray.

At thirty-three inches the statue stands in a garden niche, a side chapel, a classroom or a home shrine, and it is often given in thanks for an answered prayer.
