St. Anthony the Great 53"

This 53-inch St. Anthony the Great statue honors the Egyptian hermit revered as the father of Christian monasticism. Around 270, hearing the Gospel call to sell all and follow Christ, Anthony gave away his inheritance and went into the desert, where he battled temptation and drew disciples who formed the first monastic communities; St. Athanasius wrote his life. Known in Spanish as San Antonio Abad, he is celebrated on January 17, when many parishes bless animals, and he is patron of domestic animals and those who care for them.

At 53 inches it suits a sanctuary, a church entrance or narthex, a monastery, or an outdoor shrine on parish grounds or in a cemetery, where the January blessing of animals can gather around him.
