St. Martin of Porres 33"
St. Martin de Porres, the Dominican brother of Lima, Peru, is portrayed in this 33-inch statue as a lasting witness to humility and charity. Born in 1579 to a Spanish father and a freed mother of African descent, he served the sick and the poor of his city with tireless kindness until his death in 1639. Pope John XXIII canonized him in 1962; his feast is November 3, and he is honored as patron of social justice.
At 33 inches he belongs on a side altar, in a chapel, or in a school or hospital ministry space, and his statue suits a parish grotto or garden, fitting for a saint who tended the sick and the poor.
