St. Rita 59"

This 59-inch St. Rita of Cascia statue honors the wife, mother, widow, and Augustinian nun known as the saint of the impossible. Married young to a violent man, Rita won his conversion by patience and prayer, forgave his murderers, and later entered the convent at Cascia, where she bore a wound on her forehead from a thorn of Christ's crown. A rose that bloomed in winter as she lay dying became her sign. Her feast is May 22, and she is invoked in hopeless causes and troubled marriages.

At nearly five feet she belongs in a sanctuary, a church entrance, or a shrine on parish grounds, and many parishes place her in a rose garden or cemetery, where roses are blessed on her feast.
