We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you, because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world. That response, said at each of the fourteen halts, is the oldest prayer of the stations, and St. Alphonsus Liguori wrote the meditations most parishes still use. These 20-inch stations carry the Passion along a church wall in relief.

Twenty inches is a parish size, for a church nave, a cathedral side aisle, a college chapel, a cemetery chapel or an outdoor way of the cross beside a shrine. Families usually sponsor them as memorials.
