Tabernacle 5 is a church tabernacle for reserving the Most Blessed Sacrament, the Body of Christ kept after Mass for Viaticum, for Holy Communion to the sick and for adoration. Canon law asks that the tabernacle be immovable, made of solid and opaque material, and locked so that the danger of profanation is avoided, and that it stand in a distinguished, conspicuous and beautifully adorned part of the church. Before it a lamp burns continually, signaling Christ's presence.
It is intended for a parish sanctuary, a Blessed Sacrament chapel, a perpetual adoration chapel, or the oratory of a convent, hospital, school or retreat house where the Eucharist is reserved.
