Virgin of Merced 33"

This 33-inch Virgin of Merced statue honors Our Lady of Mercy, Nuestra Señora de la Merced, who according to tradition inspired St. Peter Nolasco to found the Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mercy in Barcelona in 1218. The Mercedarians pledged to ransom Christians held captive, even offering themselves in exchange. Her feast is September 24; she is patroness of Barcelona, beloved across Spain and Latin America, and invoked for prisoners and all who are held in bondage.

Its 33-inch height suits a side altar, a parish chapel with a strong Hispanic community, or a chapel serving prison ministry, and it can also stand in a parish grotto or courtyard garden.
