With wings raised, the adoring angel takes the attitude of the seraphim Isaiah saw about the throne, who cover themselves and cry Holy. Kneeling angels in this pose are among the oldest ornaments of the Catholic altar, set in pairs to mark the place where the Lamb is present.
Sixteen inches suits a home altar or the top of a bookcase, and pairs well on either side of a tabletop crucifix or a Christmas crèche. Parishes use this size on a small credence shelf or in an adoration chapel, and it is a considered gift for a newly ordained priest.
