Lamp-bearing angels are the sanctuary’s oldest sentinels. In many older churches a pair of them stand at the altar rail or beside the tabernacle holding lights, a reminder that the sanctuary lamp is not the only flame that keeps watch. This fifty-five-inch angel carries a lamp and is offered facing left or right.

It is a church-size piece for a sanctuary, an adoration chapel, the entrance of a cemetery or the plaza before a shrine. Pairs are the usual order; parishes sometimes dedicate each angel as a memorial from a different family.
