Between May and October of 1917 three shepherd children at the Cova da Iria were told to pray the Rosary daily for peace. What they were shown has shaped Marian devotion for a century, and this is the figure the world recognises from it: Our Lady as she appeared above the holm oak.
The fancy finish is the difference here — deeper hand-painting and gilt detail on the mantle and stars, which is why this version is usually chosen for a parish shrine, a Fatima cell, a First Saturday altar or a family's principal Marian image rather than a small shelf.
