St. Juan Diego 68"
This 68-inch St. Juan Diego statue honors Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin, the Indigenous convert to whom the Virgin of Guadalupe appeared on the hill of Tepeyac near Mexico City in December 1531. When the bishop asked for a sign, she filled his tilma with Castilian roses, and when he opened it her image was imprinted on the cloth. Pope St. John Paul II canonized him in 2002, the first Indigenous saint of the Americas, and his feast is December 9.
At 68 inches, it anchors a church sanctuary or entrance, a Guadalupe shrine, a Hispanic ministry center, or a school courtyard, and it gives parish grounds a noble image of a humble layman who said yes.
