This 12-inch Our Lady of Sorrows statue shows the Mother of God as the Mater Dolorosa, who stood faithfully at the foot of the Cross. The title recalls the Seven Sorrows of Mary, beginning with Simeon's prophecy that a sword would pierce her soul and ending with the burial of Jesus. The Church keeps her memorial on September 15, the day after the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, and the grieving, the sick and parents of suffering children seek her compassion.
