"And a sword will pierce your own soul," Simeon told her in the Temple, and the Church counts seven sorrows from that day to the tomb. This 32-inch Our Lady of Sorrows shows the Mater Dolorosa in grief for her Son, her face lifted and her hands drawn together. The faithful bring her their own losses; her feast is September 15, the day after the Exaltation of the Cross.
At thirty-two inches the statue suits a side chapel, a cemetery niche, a funeral-home chapel, a grief-ministry room or a garden. It is often given in memory of a child or a spouse, and set out during Holy Week.
Made of a lightweight, durable resin-fiberglass blend and hand-painted by artisans, each statue finished individually.
