Our Lady of Sorrows 47"

The Sorrowful Mother at 47 inches, her face wet with tears. This is Mary of the Stabat Mater, standing at the cross, the mother of the Seven Sorrows honored by the Servites since the thirteenth century. Catholics who have buried a child, or who watch a loved one suffer, go to her because she has stood where they stand. Her feast is September 15.

Just under four feet, this statue serves a side chapel, a cemetery, a funeral-home chapel, a Holy Week altar of repose or a memorial garden. Families give it in memory of the dead.
